This stand-alone is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.

Intriguing storyline with descriptive writing that draws the reader into each scene. Flexible procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking, memorable and snarky dialogue.

'She didn’t know what to do or where to go. Taking action seemed as abhorrent as standing idle. But her thoughts were too fragmented, and her organs didn’t seem to be working in tandem. Her body was a cage for this tornado that had ravaged her life.'

Cape Refuge Cape Refuge Series #1 (Audible Audio Edition) Terri Blackstock Rene Rodman Zondervan Books Reviews

I'm not good at giving reviews, but I enjoyed this very much. The book is about suffering and redemption. No matter what we've done God can and will forgive us if we choose to accept his forgiveness. He can take our broken lives and turn them into something beautiful. And even though we suffer he can use that to turn the hearts of others to Him.
In Cape Refuge which is set near Tybee Island, Georgia, is a town that gets rocked by a great murder mystery. Two sisters, Blair and Morgan, are left to figure out not only how to save their parents' legacy but also how to solve their murders. In times of distress we lean on those around us to get through things, but what happens when they are all stripped away from you? In this amazing story you find that Morgan has to be the strong one who will have no one to lean on but her beliefs and hopes. Her parents are murdered, her husband arrested and detained, her sister bitter and withdrawn, and all the tenants of their parents' legacy seem suspicious. Everyone around her who we would all turn to for help is just out of reach for her, but she stands strong. Who do you trust and how do you get others to believe what you know to be true?

I got this book to have something different to read, and I was happily rewarded with a well written thrilling book. Not only was I on the edge of my seat of a murder mystery, but also a survivor's story and a romance. I don't normally lean toward religious books, but this one didn't pour their beliefs down my throat in the writing. Everyone didn't end up converting at the end of the book because that's not how things go in real life. I could tell the difference though in how the story was written and was well satisfied. I also felt a connection having visited Tybee Island as well as Savannah and know the area. So, being able to picture the scenery and people with the very enthralling descriptions was great! Terri captured the atmosphere very well in her writing.
Well written, good character development. I especially liked the storyline of the two sisters being so different, much like my sister and I. To me this was a good read and I look forward to continuing the series.
My cousin reads Terri Blackstock's books and so I decided to give it a try. I was so impressed....no sultry explicit sex scenes and no foul language.....a Christian based murder mystery! How refreshing! I absolutely adored it. The characters were very well developed, the plot well thought out and the story flowed seamlessly. Although you may not associate murder mystery with a Christian viewpoint, it was believable and real. We all suffer loss at some point in our life and we all deal with it differently--just as Blair and Morgan did in this novel. There was a lot of controversy about the status of Hanover House--a home for those who needed refuge and help to get back on their feet. And although the premise was sad, victory came through in the end as well! I found this to be a delightful and encouraging read. Well done Ms Blackstock, well done!
This book had me from the first pages. I struggled with putting it aside each night to go to sleep! The twists and turns of the plot and wondering who the culprit is who has ravaged such destruction on a peaceful little community kept me guessing and wondering through the entire book. Not only is this book extremely well written and enjoyable, but it is heart-wrenching and inspiring at the same time. As a mother who has grieved the loss of an adult child, even the afterward at the end of the book touched my heart deeply. All I can say is read this book. It is beautiful to see a writer who uses fiction to share the gospel and show the grace and love of Jesus. (As an added comment, I loved this tale so well that I immediately ordered the sequel - something I don't often do!)
This story has strong characters and a strong storyline. Many twists and turns of suspense followed by intrigue, mystery, and questions about faith, forgiveness, God's ways and how to keep ones faith during adversity.
Terri Blackstock is one of those writers I automatically purchase to read. Her stories are always very real and encouraging, as her characters seek understanding of how God is at work in any situation. Her pointing to Christ is a constant theme as her characters struggle with our very human lack of eternal vision. God is, has always been and will always be in control, and His love for His children continues until we are called Home. How blessed we are.
