This series is ideal for anyone who wants a well written Jane Eyre sequel that mantains Edward and Jane’s marriage to be supportive, happy and healthy, with a creative sleuthing twist!Too many of these spin-offs seems to be by the kind of people who read Wide Saragossa Sea in school once and won’t shut up about it. I.e. determined to have Mr. Rochester be a horrible scoundrel, and sometimes make Jane a hot floundering mess by extension.
These books are delightful, well written and consistently good. The tone and language are appropriate for the time period, and the side characters are interesting and believable. I can’t say enough about these books.
Intriguing, clean and ultimately satisfying sequels you never knew you needed - true and respectful to the spirit of Jane Eyre!

The Death of a Dowager The Jane Eyre Chronicles Joanna Campbell Slan 9780425253519 Books Reviews
A little slow paced but interesting, good take on Jane Eyre after she marries Mr. Rochester, also pretty good mystery.
Good packaging and prompt service.
With all the books featuring fictional and historical characters this series stands above the rest. The characters of Jane Eyre and Rochester are brought back to life by Ms. Slan in a way that echos the orginal so much you could almost believe Bronte` wrote the continuing series. In addition to the gothic elements that carry over from the orginal you get a chance to now Jane and Edward as a married couple learning and growing in their relaionship as well as detecting together.
This second book in the series was an enjoyment to read. If you missed reading the first book "Death of a Schoolgirl " It will be a must to get caught up ! The author did a great job making you feel like you'e back there in time as the story was unfolding. There are multiple plots intertwined with the social and political conditions of the time.
I will be waiting for Joanna Campbell Slan next Jane Eyre with history, mystery and intrigue.
Once I started reading "Death of a Dowager", I was hooked and couldn't put it down! Love the way the characters develop and the scenes are set. I really have enjoyed this book and the others I've read by Joanna Campbell Slan. I always know when I pick up one of her books, it will be a fun and exciting read. Thanks again for another great book!
I received this book on my as soon as it was available. Joanna Slan was already one of my favorite writers. She has now moved to the very top of the list. From word one I could not put this book down. Her feel for the characters is amazing and her connection to the history of the period is, too. Hurry up with the next in the series, Joanna! I'm ready to read more.
This book is the second in a series about Jane Eyre after her marriage to Edward Rochester. The premise is based on the idea that when Jane first wrote her autobiography, it was intended to be a multi-volume work. Her handwritten manuscript was discovered in a stack of papers, and is only now being published. This is a great light summer read, with well drawn characters and an excellent sense of place and history in the early 1800's of England. I enjoyed the original Jane Eyre many years ago and was hesitant that this series might diminish the original novel. However, I found it extremely entertaining and would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed both the original by Bronte as well as historical fiction/mystery.
Mystery readers & fans of "Jane Eyre," take note. Joanna Campbell Slan's "Death of a Dowager" is not only for you but should move at once to the top of your reading list. My two favorite genres are Victorian novels and mysteries; in fact, I studied Victorian literature as my focus in graduate school, and so it is with delight that I came upon Slan's Jane Eyre mysteries. First there was "Death of a Schoolgirl, with Jane as an excellent detective, with her quiet and observant manner--and the strong heart that beats inside this little wren. "Schoolgirl" was excellent, and I looked forward to its sequel. Now that I've read (gulped down, more like) "Death of a Dowager," I can say that Slan is on a roll. Eyre's voice continues to be wonderfully convincing, and the character development of friends and foes is very well done. I delight in this version of life-after "Jane Eyre," and all that is happening to Jane and her family and friends. Slan is a masterful storyteller, and this time we are also in the company of Blanche Ingram and her mama and sister. If you disliked Blanche in Bronte's classic, you will relish Slan's portrayal of these avaricious women who get what they so deeply deserve. Fascinatingly, Slan's use of the court of King George IV--as tarnished as the once-beautiful Prince Regent, now ill, bloated, and old--in her mystery provides captivating insights into a time in Britain's history when public tumult threatened possible revolution. Jane's good friend, Lucy Brayton, becomes a mainstay in this second volume, and I very much enjoyed watching this friendship grow into an even greater bond. Slan's portrait of Edward Rochester intrigues, with his increasing blindness and despair; how Slan helps Edward on that score is worth the price of admission alone! I am already looking forward to the next volume in what I can only hope will be an ongoing series. Please pay attention, publisher Berkley Prime Crime This reader is only one of many who are waiting for more of Jane!
